Mountain Community Health Foundation

Mountains Community Health Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides consistent financial support to Mountains Community Health. For more than 30 years, the Foundation has been the bridge between what our hospital needs and what our community helps to make possible.

Because of our donors, we’re growing! Our services continue and our doors remain open.

Why Foundation Support Matters

Rural hospitals across the country are struggling. Many will shut down entirely, forcing people in remote areas to drive long distances when they need care.

That hasn’t happened here. The reason is simple: this community invests in its hospital. Foundation gifts have funded critical equipment purchases, facility improvements, and programs that keep MCH operating at a level most rural hospitals can’t match. The Foundation has provided more than $5 million in patient care support in the last decade alone.

Every gift, big or small, helps make sure our community has what it needs when it matters most.

Respiratory vent

When a patient is struggling to breathe, every moment matters. This Hamilton ventilator gives our care team three essential respiratory therapies—ventilation, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen—all in one lifesaving piece of equipment

 

With our current equipment aging and one ventilator being phased out, this investment would provide much-needed backup and allow our team to quickly adjust care as a patient’s condition changes. For a small rural hospital with limited respiratory equipment, having this technology close to home means being better prepared for critically ill patients when they need us most.

Early detection can save lives. Colonoscopy scopes allow our physicians to screen for and treat colorectal cancer, while also diagnosing and managing other digestive conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis, and colitis.

 

MCH currently has just four scopes, which limits how many procedures we can perform each day and contributes to growing waitlists. Adding another scope would allow our Surgery Department to care for more patients sooner, expand access to important screenings, and help detect colorectal cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage.

Every colonoscopy and endoscopy procedure depends on properly cleaned and sterilized equipment. Our current sterilization system is nearing the end of its useful life, making replacement essential to maintaining safe, reliable care.

 

The STERIS Enspire 3000 automatically cleans and sterilizes colonoscopy and endoscopy scopes, helping eliminate harmful microorganisms and ensuring each scope is ready for the next patient. Without this equipment, we cannot safely perform these important procedures.

A more versatile procedure table means more care can happen right here at MCH. This specialized table will help our general surgeon safely and comfortably position patients with a wider range of in-office procedures, while also making care easier and more efficient for our clinical team.

Our Rural Health Clinic is an important access point for care in our mountain community, and this remodel will help make the space safer, more accessible, and more functional for both patients and staff.

 

Planned improvements include lowering windows for ADA accessibility, updating restroom flooring, refreshing walls and finishes, and adding durable wall protection in high-traffic areas. The project may also expand the nurses’ station to create a more efficient workspace for our care team.

For many of our Skilled Nursing residents, MCH is more than a place to receive care—it’s home. This remodel will help create a more comfortable and functional environment for both residents and the staff who care for them.

 

Planned improvements include fresh paint, durable wall protection in resident rooms, and new built-in wardrobes to provide residents with improved storage for clothing and personal belongings. The project is being coordinated with nearby renovations, so the entire area feels cohesive, comfortable, and thoughtfully updated.

Transport van

Our $72 million hospital seismic improvement and expansion project is an important investment in our community—but construction has created new challenges for the patients and staff who depend on our hospital every day. With parking farther from our buildings and steep inclines to navigate, our patients and staff rely on shuttles to safely get where they need to go. As winter approaches, snow and ice will make that journey even more difficult. We need your help to provide a safe, reliable all-wheel-drive shuttle. This vehicle will help ensure patients can reach their care safely, staff can get to work, and our hospital remains accessible through construction and whatever winter brings.

Community Care Fund

In late 2025, the Foundation launched the Community Care Fund to help patients facing financial barriers get the care they need. As healthcare costs rise and federal funding faces uncertainty, this fund provides a safety net for mountain residents who might otherwise go without treatment.
